1. More people using helmets
2. More people keeping license with vehicle
3. More people are keen in updating vehicle Documents
4. Teens without license driving around city.
5. Drunken driving causing accidents.
Increased Police checking helped to raise use of Helmets and keeping documents including license with the vehicles. Random checking had a great influence on motorist. Though it has created lot of pain to motorists, it has resulted in citizens following traffic rules and avoids accidents. Though police checking is disturbing to common people, it has improved the standard of traffic especially along Sion Panvel highway and in Panvel city as well. Drunk drivers are another problem faced by traffic in Panvel. Drunken drivers have caused many accidents in the city. Especially in evenings, lot of drunken people drive through the roads.
Traffic police has started a round of strong checking after Diwali in different parts of the city. Both Panvel and Kalamboli Traffic police has intensified its checking which forced residents to wear helmets and have enough documents with them. Traffic police was also very keen taking fines from the offenders. They choose turnings, shades of trees, under bridges, junctions and other unexpected areas to checking. This caught many offenders into the hands of police for punishment.
Random checking even in villages creates a sense of fear among the public and started keeping traffic rules even in village roads of Panvel. Particularly in village roads, which are outside the city limits, there are many non-licensed travelers. Communication with different social organizations and traffic officials, it is clear that a large number of people is using helmets and traveling with license. Earlier, many teens are used to travel in bikes and other motor vehicles without license. Even in city teens used to drive in dangerous speed.
Strong checking on such traffic has caused more people to wear helmets. Now it has become rare to find motorists without helmets, at least in main roads. But traffic police has to look into the matters of drunken driving and improve checking in evenings.
Stanly Sam, a resident of Panvel, said “it is glad to see that traffic of Panvel has become more in order. Most of motorists are wearing helmets; very less teens are now hitting roads. Many have become cautious about license and enough documents for their vehicles. Police has to improve checking in evenings to get those drunken drivers. Accidents will be reduced; damages for people will be reduced, if police can continue these types of checking.”
Praveen Bankar, inspector of Panvel Traffic Police, said “Traffic police is trying hard to find the public happy with a smooth traffic. We have started a chain of patrolling in different parts of Panvel. We gave primary importance to wearing helmets. Then we are reducing number of people driving without proper documents and license.
