The Panvel Post is tracing the orange market of Panvel to understand different types of oranges and its qualities.
Broadly oranges in Panvel can be divided into 3 types according to their prices. The low-priced Indian oranges are available in 30-40 Rs. per kg. These oranges have seen plenty in markets; streets and some even sell these oranges in numbers. Qualities of these oranges are minimal and small in size, but still have good taste. These oranges are more sold in trains, bus stands and small markets. They are available in different colours including green and are not so attractive.
Oranges from Nagpur and Aurangabad are available in 80-100 Rs. per kg. With good quality and better taste, these oranges are always recommended by fruit vendors. These are the most sold fruits of this time, as chosen by common man. Most of these oranges have dull greenish-yellow colour and are less attractive, but are bigger than the previous. As the favourite for common man, these oranges are available all important markets and street vendors.
Even though foreign oranges are of less quality and taste, they are more profitable and preferred by many fruit vendors. These oranges are very attractive with glowing orange colour. Many people buy this orange, as they are colourful and suitable for table. Fruit vendors in Panvel see it as one of the most profitable fruits. Due to its high rates and less taste, they are still not chosen by common man. They are available in 120-150 Rs. per kg.
Sushil Dadu, a fruit vendor of Panvel Market, said “Indian oranges of Nagpur and Aurangabad are of very good quality and are chosen by many people. But for us foreign oranges are more profitable, because this give good money and are very attractive. But in quality and taste, Indian oranges are better than foreign ones. We always recommend people to take the Indian oranges, because of their taste. Still some need glowing colourful and attractive foreign oranges.
