Why NMMC hospital(vashi) has no facility to accommodate a TB patient?

Rakesh Kumar was lying naked and unconscious in the footpath of Panvel near to Railway station. His native place is Lucknow and was working in Mumbra for last 18 years. On Wednesday he was spotted in the Panvel railway station and was starving for 7 days. Human welfare association and Bless foundation took initiative to help this person and provide him with some clothes. They took him into MGM hospital, Kamote and took some medical checkups and said he is dangerous final stages of TB. Doctors refused to admit the patients, as they don’t haveenough facilities there. Then to Vashi NMMC hospital also refuse to admit him as they don’t have enough facilities. Doctors and hospital authorities appreciated the NGOs and people tried to help a dying person. Later he was transferred to TB hospital, Sewri.

The fact that NMMC hospital does not have a proper treatment facility or room to accommodate a dying person with TB gets many questions. When contacted, authorities stated that they don’t have proper facility to accommodate such a severe TB patient patient. Human Welfare Association has decided to file a complaint toNMMC, CIDCO M.D. and hospitals denied room for patient.

Ragunathan Nair, president of Human Welfare Association, said “with a dying patient we were running from hospitals to hospitals just to rescue one life even that in midnight. But experience from the hospital has put us to file a complaint against the problem. Reji Thomas, a Panvel resident provided his to rescue this person. Panvel police also tried to help our mission. we want authorities to make such emergency arrangements for TB patients in NMMC hospital. NMMC hospital is a common mans hospital from Mankurd to panvel and all navi mumbai.”

Doctors from NMMC hospital also said “he was in dangerous condition of TB and potentially infectious.”
