Half decade old drainage network is limited for the current population and found as a lack point for the future developments in the city. The old system was open in many areas caused the breeding of mosquitoes and created many health problems for residents in the city. Overflowing waste water and throwing filthy water into rivers irks the residents. The city is producing ample amount of waste water not only due to its increasing population but also due to the presence of Wholesale markets, vegetable markets and fish markets.

A fully fledged drainage system and waste water management were in the minds of many people in the city long ago. But proper construction of the drainage system was started in 2010. The construction of the system is divided into 2 zones and later will be joint together and also with the Old system. Treatment plant is an important part of the new drainage system. Construction of the treatment plant is completed and already tested through a trial process. Treatment plant will collect all the waste water into its underground, 30 feet down, tank with gravitation al force. Waste water will then be pumped into treatment tanks and goes through different process. Seduced and the remaining waste will be sent with solid waste. Remaining water from the treatment will be used for productive purposes such as plantations and farming. Thus waste water will be reuse creatively. Construction of treatment plant cost near to 15 cores.

The systems are producing new buds of hope for residents as they wish to get rid of water pollution, water related health problems and giving a new face for Panvel city.

During the constructions, municipality, contractors and engineers came to face with a lot of obstacles and hurdles in the path. Constructions will only be possible in Nov-May months due to monsoon in remaining months. Festivals, related processions had made considerable disturbances for the constructions. To avoid disturbance for traffic, construction was compromised many times. Roads in Panvel are comparatively less wide, which made the construction worse. Works in night was not possible due to the presence of rocks in the roads.

Raju P.J., a resident of Panvel, “construction of new drainage system will make considerable impacts over the image of Panvel. Now Old Panvel is no so old, but a promising city with a great future.”

Charusheela Gharat, Chairperson of Panvel Municipal council, said “it’s a great vision of our people to have good waste water management. We are glad to announce that we are accelerating the development process and will be completely operational by next year.”
