Civic issues, Features and Personalities of Navi Mumbai
Putting forth a new example for irresponsibility of Official as well as residents, Panvel is facing sanitation issues in its Lakes. As developments are accelerating in the city, steps should be adopted to ensure the cleanliness and beauty of the Lakes.
Vadala Lake, one of the biggest lakes in Panvel suffers due to the filthy conditions remaining for more many months. The lake is also suffering due to the growing algae in the lake. The lake is one of the most beautiful areas in the Old City of Panvel. But continues throwing of wastes into the lake is had affected the beauty of the lake on one side. It issituated in the heart of the Panvel city with temples and hospitals in its vicinity.
On the banks of Vadale Lake situated, the famous Ballaleshwar Temple. Thus the lake holds a tremendous potential to become a spot of attraction and recreation, but remains in ruins. Some of the residents are also complaining that hospitals in the area use to throw wastes near to the lake.
Israil Lake is another important lake that situated near to Panvel Sion highway and surrounded by residential areas. Three sides of the lake are protected by walls, but still remains as a waste bin. Residents in the vicinity use water from the lake for all kinds of cleaning purposes. They use this water to wash clothes and clean utensils. They found it easier to throw waste in lakes, than to put it in garbage bins. So the lake is filled with daily waste of the area.
Both the lakes have a heavy potential to become attractive spots for recreation as well as tourism purposes. But due to the negligence of officials in PMC and lack of civic sense in its own residents, developments in the city stuck by impediments.
Santosh, a resident of Panvel, said Panvel is blessed with lots of natural beauty and lakes. There is an important potential for these spots to become recreational spots. But the officials have to be more vigilant about such problems in our city. Residents have to be more responsible about their own surroundings.
Greshma, a resident of Panvel, said Vadale Lake is the biggest in the city and is very beautiful in the evenings. But problems arise in the lake, as algae are developing in the lake. One side of the lake is now filled with wastes even from hospitals. It has not yet thrown into the lake. But for sure nearly lake will also be filled with those wastes.
“We are cleaning the lakes. We will ensure the lakes are clean in coming days” He said.
