Plastic is nothing less than a part of body for human beings in this modern world.  PanvelCity has also copied the easiness of plastic and its durability. But it has also caused some crucial long lasting damages to our society. For sure, plastic has played a great role in the developments and modernization of human being. It has helped us to carry our belongings in easy way with light weight.

Fourth Esatate is tracing the use of plastic and its effects on Panvel City.

As the population of our City is increasing drastically and use of plastic is also increasing accordingly. Plastics are spotted in important water bodies and ecologically important areas of  Panvel City. Drainage canals are blocked by many plastic materials. Even gardens and hospitals, which are expected to be hygienic, are not free of plastic garbage. These issues over sanitation has arisen many health concerns in the City.

For many years, important cities in our country struggled to compete with effects of plastic.  As the City of the future, Panvel, has to find a way out of it to maintain harmony in our society. It is important to create awareness among people of our Panvel City about the use of plastics. If managed well plastic could create wonders. At the same time it could also turn destructive, if ill managed. It is his durability and strength makes him unique fromother substance. But the very qualities have also functioned as a destructive role in our society.

Collections of plastic thrown into roadsides are common scenes in Panvel. Even in important parts of the city, plastic wastes are gathered and make the city filthy. People cannot find a proper way to get rid of plastic, as it is non degradable. The best way to get rid of plastic is to burn them. It has spotted in various parts of Panvel, people use to burn plastics. But social workers state that burning plastic could generate far reaching consequences. Due to its chemical composition, it emits toxic gases like dioxin, which causes cancer. It could also affect the respiratory organs.

Plastic’s versatility allows it to use in almost everything from industrial purposes for household needs. Plastics are mainly used for all packaging purposes from fuels to food materials. The fact that plastic is lightweight, does not rust or rot, helps lower transportation costs and preserve natural resources is the reason for which plastic has increased this much popularity. Thus the greatest innovation of the millennium, plastic, helped human beings to ease our works and activities.

Though plastic has many positive effects in our society, there remains some important health and environmental hazards. Plastic is a non biodegradable substance that cannot be destroyed easily. After use, many of us throw away such plastics and remain in our surrounding for many years. This substance could make many environmental adverse effects.

Medical wastes that include large content of plastic are spotted near to Vadale lake in the city. These wastes evoke concerns over the environment as well as health concerns in the city dwellers.

Plastic carry bags are largely used in the Markets of Panvel for convenience, but its amount remains a threat to society. Large deposition of plastic garbage is noticed at the back of wholesale market as well as fish markets. Most of the plastics are destroyed by burning that evokes concerns.

Susan Joy, a resident of Panvel, said “our whole life depends on this city. Here we are struggling with the basic problem of sanitation. Plastic has become an important part of garbage and could affect the health and environment of the city.”

Dileep Kadam, chief health inspector of PMC, said “we will take every step to clean the city. Plastic is a crucial form of waste that we deal with. Residents also have to cooperate and put waste in garbage bin, but not in open spaces and ponds.”
