Murbi was a small village blessed with natural beauty with a pond as its water supplier, has now become a part of urbanization resulted in losing its natural beauty and the pond become useless due to irresponsible garbage dubbing in it. Murbi pond is no more supplier of drinking water, which is situated in between sector19 and 18 of Kharghar, but brings health woes for its residents. It was shocking to see that private water suppliers use this filthy pond water and supplied to various parts of the city, without proper filtrations. As per the rules, taking water from ponds for drinking supply is illegal.
One side of the pond is now covered with lots of bushy grass and tall plants becoming a safe place for those using drugs, as it is not open to the public view. After 6’0 clock people are afraid to go near the area due to fear of getting attacked. Though such incidents have not reported yet, people want city officials to take action to discourage such activities in the middle of the city.
The road near to the pond is very clean and neat, as the Cidco has placed enough waste bins and regular in collecting waste near to buildings. Still some residents are irresponsible to throw waste near to the pond and it is becoming filthy. More than just an unwanted part of Kharghar, this is making many health problems for the nearby dwellers. Due to garbage dubbing the pond has become sources of diseases. Many residents are concerned with mosquitoes produced by filthy water in the pond.
Mayur Patil, a resident near to pond in sector 18, said that “this pond is the source of every health problems for sector 19 and sector18 residents. Cidco officials should take enough steps to control dubbing garbage into pond as well as clean the pond with immediate effect.”
Malathi gupta, resident of sector 18, observed that “many people coming in bikes and throw away their waste materials into the pond, so the residents near to the pond are not responsible for all the wastes.”
Udthilal Patel, a resident in sector19, recollected “the beauty of the village and the pond was part of our daily life. Now it has become nothing but a waste bin. I placed one board near to the pond in which advice not to put waste materials near the pond. It is very hard to see that no one is obeying.”
Managing garbage and controlling health issues come under the health department. Dr. B. S. Bhavaskar, Head of health department promised to take all possible actions to control illegal activities and maintain beauty of the pond. Cidco PRO, Mohan Ninave, said that “we never allow water suppliers to take water from ponds. But if such illegal activities happen, police would take strict actions.”
